Howard COOK

American (1901 - 1980)

Bremen #11931

Duffy 149. Wood engraving on wove paper, full margins. Edition of 75 (but only 30 were printed). Very rare.
Titled, dated and numbered 75 in pencil. Inscribed "Happy Times for Bettina and her Husband from Howard Cook and Barbara, Talpa, N.M., June 10, 1959".
10 x 6 1/8 in.; 25.4 x 15.56 cm.

This impression had it's original mat, on which was inscribed: 'Wood engraving - in series made for North German Lloyd in 1931'. Bremen was a shipbuilder operating between Bremen and London, and Howard Cook probably crossed the Atlantic in one of these posh liners. He made other prints of this subject, e.g. "Engine Room".
