~ ARMIN LANDECK ~
Like Arms and Geerlings, Landeck was trained as an architect and received a degree in 1927 from Columbia University. During the Depression, he was unable to find employment and turned to printmaking. After several years of etching European subjects, he focused on urban scenes, primarily the skyscrapers and tenements of New York City. Like his friend Martin Lewis, Landeck was fascinated with the patterns and oblique perspectives of soaring skyscrapers and was also partial to night scenes. Later in his career, Landeck studied with Stanley William Hayter and turned towards greater abstraction and the medium of copper engraving.
